Round 2 saw us travel to Whitefriars College for an early start. Coming off the back of a good win last week the boys were confident heading into the match. Unfortunately we had a few boys out with injury from round 1 although we still believed due to our great depth that we had a strong side.

The first quarter saw Whitefriars jump us with four quick goals in a row with great run and direct kicking deep to their forwards. We were able to wrestle back a bit of momentum with two late goals to go into quarter time trailing 4.3.27 to 2.1.13.  The second quarter was similar to the first as we were smashed in the clearances and we were not quick enough to react defensively on turnovers. Another four goals to two had us trailing at half-time 8.5.53 to 4.3.27, although we felt that we had the momentum going into the third quarter. When we moved the ball quickly we looked quite dangerous, but our shallow entries inside 50 made it too easy for them to run the ball out and catch us on the turnover.

Once again Whitefriars got on top of us early in the third quarter and dominated the possession of the ball. Their ball movement was crisp and delivered long to the forward’s advantage, leaving our defenders helpless. All the play was with Whitefriars and it showed on the scoreboard at three-quarter time with us trailing 5.5.35 to 14.9.90.  The last quarter saw us try some different players in different positions, and the players who changed ends of the ground did well and fought hard. In the end we lost the game 7.6.48 to 19.8.122.

We will learn from the mistakes we made in this game and train hard during the week to prepare ourselves for a big game next week. Once again thank you to all the parents and supporters that came to the game to watch and help out with jobs.
