Round 12 saw us travel out to Parkdale for an early morning game. We are aware Parkdale is a strong outfit, but thought that with the inclusion of a few school boys we may be able to test them out.
While we were not able to get the job done on the scoreboard, there were pleasing aspects to the game with the four school players really stepping up to the standard and taking it up to a physically stronger side.
The tone of the day was set early when Parkdale came out strong with a five goal to one first quarter. We had plenty of the ball rebounding off half-back, although we kept breaking down at half-forward as has been the case most of the year.
The second quarter saw Parkdale flex their muscles as they controlled the game fully, kicking five goals, but due to some good defensive pressure we were able to force a few misses too.
The third quarter was our best as we managed to keep them to two goals and managed two goals ourselves. Our run and rebound off half-back was intense and great to watch. This showed us that when everyone chips in we can match it with the best.
The last quarter was incredibly tough as we managed to lose all of our bench to injuries so the boys out on the field had to tough it out with no rotations on a big ground.
All in all a tough day at the office, yet we learn a lot from the game and head to the bye to regroup before pushing hard to the end of the year
