The expectations were high for the new season as Generation Next was unveiled. 6 new players debuted for the Panthers (Ben Coull, David Blackie, Aydan Hrovat, Will Nichols, Tagan Carter-Taylor and Tom Chapman). This bodes very well for the club as we embark on developing a strong culture both on and off the field with youth the cornerstone of our programme.
Last season’s runners-up Old Trinity was always going to be a terrific test for us and it turned out to be that way. For three and a half quarters the Panthers stuck with Old Trinity in a hard-fought contest where both defences were holding sway. Co-Senior Coach, Michael Tarrant and I were very satisfied with the thirst for the contest shown by the players. The tackle pressure was excellent and this has set a high benchmark for the playing group for season 2016. Old Trinity’s class in the end prevailed and 2016 looks like being another promising season for them.
On a sour note, Jimmy Courtot went down with what looked like a serious knee injury. Initial diagnosis indicates a much better outcome so our thoughts are with Jimmy and we hope the formal scans show a good result.
In summary, we have identified the areas for improvement and will work hard to improve in those areas we need to. Our debutants can hold their heads high and if we continue to bring the intensity we did each week, then the results will come.
