Wow! What a final quarter! Two goals down early we dug deep and did what we do best, push hard around the packs, tackle, scrap and force the ball forward only to come up a whisker short at the final siren.
We could not have asked for one more ounce of effort or commitment from anyone on the field. Our backline was outstanding, Ivanhoe’s inaccuracy was a direct result of our incessant pressure and despite long periods of play in their forward half particularly in the third term we hung tough and did not afford them any time and space to have a decent shot at goal. Awesome!
Opportunities for improvement abound; we are still being out marked at the drop of the ball, we need to be in front and on the move when the ball is coming our way, having the ball go over our head is a lessor offence in comparison to the ball dropping into the arms of our opponent. But the strength of our kicking is our greatest opportunity. Ladies please take every chance to work on this. It is the biggest single factor that will improve our team. As individuals we have varying levels of commitment to this. Are you doing everything you can at training and home to improve your kicking?
The votes were hard to split but it was impossible to leave out Tab’s dad waving the flags in the goals, Meg’s mum for her outstanding work running the boundary and Tab and Em for their cracking rendition of Greased Lightning in the post-match Karaoke.
