Round two saw us travel out to Altona Meadows to face Williamstown for the first time since beating them in the semi final two years ago.
It was clear that this was still fresh in their memory as they came out of the blocks hard and caught us napping with a four goal to one first quarter.
The second quarter saw us have the wind and were able to wrestle back a little momentum, although we were wasteful with the ball in hand and didn't capitalise on our shots at goal. Both teams managed only one goal each.
The third quarter saw us control the ball and the play for the majority of the quarter as we slowed the game down, although we gave up two easy goals through poor skills by foot. We were able to move the ball quite well, yet fell down at the last hurdle as the final kick inside 50 or at goal was wayward.
The final quarter was clearly our last chance to get into the game and the signs early were good as we took the game on and ran hard at the opposition. Without sounding like a broken record it was our kicking that let us down. Kicking six behinds in the quarter never gave us a chance.
Although a disappointing loss, we take a lot out of the game and can learn from our mistakes and better ourselves from them.
