Round 7 saw the start of our toughest month of football for the year as we play the 4 sides directly below us on the ladder.
The first quarter was a good start as we ran the ball and kicked long with the wind and got an early ascendancy with a 3 goal to 1 term.
The second quarter was the opposite as collegians used the wind well and had majority of the ball but our defenders stood up to the task and only let in 3 goals that could have easily been 6 or 7 during the term. We managed a late goal to go in to the main break within a goal of our opponents.
The third quarter didn't start well as collegians moved the ball very well into the wind and kicked 2 quick goals to put us on the back foot although the on field leaders stepped up and wrestled back momentum to kick a few late goals to hold a small lead going into the final quarter.
The final term was an arm wrestle as Collegians were in control and pushing hard to put us away. They got out to a 10 point lead with 5 minutes to go when we managed to kick a goal from outside 40 near the boundary to put us back in the game. The final minutes were agonising to watch from the sidelines as the ball was camped in our backline and didn't look like coming out until we broke away from a stoppage and ran the length of the ground and entered our forward 50. The ball as it did for most of the day seemingly came out quicker than it went in but our pressure was fantastic and we forced a turnover from a deliberate out of bounds. The kick went to the perfect spot at the top of the goal square and we were able to take a mark and kick a goal to put us in front with 10 seconds left on the clock.
A fantastic gutsy effort considering that a few players were out of the side it was great to see the rest of the team step and and all tow the line to come away with our 6th win from 7 games.
