Third XVIII Football is back!  Beaten soundly but not disgraced, a new look team took to the field for the Panther 3s on Saturday against De La.  We had a very good mix of Under 19’s & Seconds players who were very unlucky to miss out on their respective team selections and the usual suspects from the Thirds group over the past few years

A lack in team cohesion, fitness and probably most importantly, height were our main issues on the day and, even though we were able to compete with DeLa in patches, they ran over the top of us by 20+ goals.  Although it might sound doom and gloom, there were a LOT of positives to take from the game including:

-  We had some first gamers for the club including a German exchange student

-  the return of our top goal kicker and club legend Tom MB after a serious injury last season

-  the twos players that missed out on selection stood up and fought gallantly including Sam Fisher who was clearly best on ground for us and would have impressed the opposition too

-  the under 19s players, although lacking in experience and hardened bodies, showed grit and determination and that they will be very reliable in the future for the Panthers

After the Easter Break, the squad has up to four ruckman returning to the squad (which is great because we had no ruckman on Saturday) and a couple of past club greats putting their hands up for a game, so the future for the 3s boys is bright!

Stay tuned!
