The anticipated day taking on the undefeated Old Brighton home at Dunshea had arrived and the boys were expectant.

3 forced changes saw Luke Crozier, Jordie Easton and first gamer, Henry Chapman from the Under 19's come into the side. We were ready and the start of the game delivered on our assessment  that the boys were on and we kicked the first and third goals of the game and were on top of the best team in the competition thus far in 2017.

Unfortunately, after kicking our second goal we gave away a needless free kick before the ball was returned to the centre square. This resulted in an easy transition forward for Old Brighton to score a goal levelling the scores. We continually went forward but did not convert our chances and conceded a late goal to go into the break 14 points down despite having more scoring shots.

The second quarter did not start as well and Old Brighton was able to apply scoreboard pressure and threatened to go away with the game. That we responded and actually score the last 2 goals of the quarter and go in with momentum to half time, was very pleasing. This is the first time in 7 games that we have done this - and against the top team nonetheless. We went into half time 9 points down and there was a buzz of expectation in the rooms.

The third quarter we came out of the blocks well and scored the first goal of the quarter. The rest of the quarter was goal for goal but again we could not make the most of our territorial dominance and Old Brighton again scored a late goal to take a 7 point lead into the last break.

The last quarter was very pleasing early as we kicked 3 goals in a row after conceding the first goal to level the scores half way through the quarter.

Alas, we could not maintain the rage and Old Brighton kicked the last 4 goals of the game to run out winners by 26 points.

The score did not reflect the evenness of the match which is disappointing.

We will review unsparingly and come out ready to take on Fitzroy next week - again at home - so we hopefully go into the bye with momentum.
