This week would be the last game in a run of seven consecutive games and at the club you were starting to see if take a toll on a few of the players.

Injuries had begun to pile up and the pool of people we had picked from earlier in the year was somewhat diminished.

Fitzroy jumped out of the blocks, demonstrating a bit more spread from the contest and our continued following our opponents to the ball.

We had Karsten Rodenberg playing his 50th game and early he was clearly our most prevalent player. We trailed as heavily at quarter time as we have all season [33-12].

The second followed a similar theme and we were temporarily short on the bench with a send-off not helping matters. We were just slightly better at being in the contest but the gap between us and Fitzroy was widening. Brett Deleijer a very decorated senior player in past, was the shining light, putting some pressure on the scoreboard. [69-26]

At half time there was a bit of a ‘good hard look’ to be had if we were to prevent this from being a whitewash. Never quite sure why it takes a bake to get going sometimes but the response in the third quarter was pleasing. We pulled ourselves back to within reaching distance at 3QT on the back of efforts from Ed Aujard, Henry McQueen Miscamble and in particular Cam Wallace. We managed to kick 4goals for the quarter whilst limiting Fitzroy to 3. [91-52].

We challenged the boys to get the first goal of the last and put the onus on Fitzroy to win the game. We did get that first goal, but what happened after that was a bit of an avalanche in favour of our opponent.

Fitzroy kicked the last 7 goals of the match as we raised the white flag. [FINAL 135 -60].

The break comes at a good time it would seem. We now get to recover, get healthy and load up for the back end of the year. There have been some really pleasing times to date (today wasn’t one), but we’ve earnt the right to be Third on the ladder and with enough sacrifice and effort the Carey Ressies side could play finals football. Just as easily, we could drop that 1 game and find ourselves 7th. OVER TO YOU BOYS!
