Round 7 saw us hosting our second match in a row with De La Salle coming to the pristine Carey Playing Fields in Bulleen on another beautiful day for football.

A few more injuries saw us play our 13th and 14th debutants for the season, with Bruno Consalvo and Callum Cameron earning their chance to pull on the famous Panther home strip. We also welcomed back Matty Parker into the fold after he has spent the past 3 years rehabilitating from a nasty leg injury that threatened to end his playing career. That he is back playing, and playing in the Seniors, is testament to his strength of character and he was a very popular inclusion into the team. Rounding out our changes were the additions of Lochlann Hall and Nick Richardson into the side.

We started the game OK and had most of the play in the first half of the quarter, but did not capitalise on our chances whilst De La Salle did. The back-half of the quarter was disappointing as De La got on top and then really hurt us on the scoreboard. At seven goals to nil at quarter time things were looking grim.

The players responded and what transpired next was fantastic, as the Panthers took the game up to De La Salle and we rammed on six goals to nothing until late in the quarter. De La scored one but we were back in the hunt at eight goals to six at half-time.

Young teams find it hard to sustain the necessary pressure required at this level and our most inexperienced team for the year could not come up with that level of intensity. We fell away badly in the end, with De La Salle running out winners.

There were certainly some positives to take out of the day, however, so we will build on those and learn from our mistakes. The players are working hard and morale is strong despite the year that has turned out for us so far.
