The reserves made a pact as a group after the Old Xavs loss to stick together, work hard on the track, stay committed and put everything into this week’s game against St Bernards. With some quality players coming back into the team after injury, the group was hopeful of turning around its recent results.
The first half we just couldn’t get going, kicking one goal. This could have been much better, with three shots on goal hitting the post, but at least we were creating opportunities. We were sharing possession equally, but turnovers were costing us badly as was a lack of concentration at vital stages. St Bernards were a lot more composed with the ball entering their forward 50m, and it showed on the scoreboard at half-time as we were down by six goals.
We started the second half in great fashion, kicking the first two goals against the wind through the run and carry of Nick Richardson. Richo was dangerous up forward and when he went on the ball, was giving us vital clearances. However, just as it looked like we had all the momentum and could stay in touch at three-quarter time, we again fell back into bad habits and it ultimately cost us any chance. St Bernards piled on seven goals for the quarter from that moment onwards, whilst we could only manage one more unfortunately.
