What a perfect day for football on the weekend!
We ventured down to Monash knowing that if we were not switched on mentally it would be a danger game.
We made three changes with Karsten Rodenberg coming in for his first game for the year.
Tom Jepson playing his first senior game which was also a major highlight in the build up to the game.
The first quarter our major focus was to play to our structure, be patient as all games are an arm wrestle in the first 10 to 15 minutes.
To the boys credit we were fantastic, linking up well and putting real pressure on Monash every time they got the ball.
We were able to force turnovers, then capitalise and put score on the board.
The second was the same as the first quarter and we went in 11 goals to 2 at half time which was very pleasing.
The third quarter was a tough quarter with Monash lifting, they were able to stop our run and create lots of stoppages.
Credit to Monash we were only able to kick 2 goals, but on a positive they didn’t score any goals
At three quarter time we changed our focus to lifting our tackle rate rather than looking at the score board.
Last week we amassed 91 tackles and were well below that target and to also remain discipline to the way we want to play.
To the boys credit we kicked 9 goals to 2, with the boys ability to run harder than the opposition being really evident.
It was a fitting way to finish the game with 89 tackles, it was another small step forward in the development of the club!
We need to understand that not every game against sides lower on the ladder will finish like this!
Our focus and challenge is to always respect the opposition and be aware that games will not always be on our terms.
