Sunny one week, Armageddon the next.
It seems anytime we meet StBernards absurd weather patterns come with it.
The first five to ten minutes of the game were ours BUT converting was hard.
We had the prevailing wind and needed to do something with it.
We eventually scrapped a goal.
Poor chief on the rotations board (and the trainers) we doing overtime.
At one stage in the first we had 3 players getting treatment all at once. Two of those lost for the day L
At Quarter time the score sat at [OC 1.2.8- STB 0.2.2] ~ We were in for a low-scoring arm wrestle.
St Bernards levelled quickly in the second as conditions got even more difficult.
Pier Akecs return was vindicated & Karsten Rodenberg thrived when many others struggled with the bar-of-soap football.
We kept grinding away in the second and were rewarded with a late goal. [OC 2.3.15 – STB 1.2.8]
The heavens really opened on us 10minutes into the third quarter.
I mean completely opened!!! From the sidelines we were unable to make-out what was occurring on the field.
At its heaviest the umpire halted the match – sighting the fact he was actually incapable of umpiring.
The hailstorm lasted about 5minutes and saw grown men cowering behind the goal posts.
I was very happy in the confines of the coaches box!
With play resuming St Bernards adjusted best and managed 3 goals for the quarter. [OC 2.3.15 – STB 4.8.32]
It was clear in the first few minutes of the last quarter that the Carey side were not done with.
Captain Jeremy Cator came into it. Marcus Cushen goaled and we drew nearer.
The fight was really pleasing to see, we were running out the game better and doing so without a bench.
We were just incapable of getting within a kick, which would’ve made it real interesting.
Finally the siren sounded and we were 10points short. The boys were gutted BUT I think there was plenty of positives to take away as well!
