Last week was easy street, the single change - whereas this week we faced half a new side (11 changes).
Hard to believe this could be the case BUT can be the nature of amatuer football.
We arrived at Monash uneasy about what we faced, a few unknowns,
· could the replacements offset the multitude of changes.
· were monash travelling poorly as Rd1&2 indicated after being a contender last year.
The match set out well enough with us clearing out to a 3 goal lead early.
Jimmy Roberts in his first reserves game was prominent early and hit the socreboard for us.
Up back we were a little predictable with ball in hand and were missing opportunity to switch the play.
What is good is seeing the development of Cal Cameron in the back-end.
[OC 2.4.16 - MB 0.2.2]
The second quarter we continued the trend of just doing enough to keep a comfortable 4-5goal lead.
Wade Brusnahan and James King were leading the way with ball in hand. A few of our players were trying to do a bit much.
Letting a late one in didn't help our case. The scoreboard read OC 6.7.43 MB 2.5.17
We talked about stepping up in the third but out opponent got the better of things and the match tightened up.
We were a bit slow to respond to the quicker style of play they were adopting.
We came in at 3qt with a 15point buffer and were throwing the side around a bit to ensure we ran it out.
[OC 7.9.51 - MB 5.6.36]
We kicked early goals in the last allaying the danger. Zac Lisle kicked a couple and had a hand in another.
His success the result of us moving the ball into the 50 a lot quicker.
Jimmy Roberts finished the game how he started it and a big final quarter painted over any cracks shown earlier.
[OC 12.11.83 MB 5.8.38]
We all feel we are a long way from hitting our straps, so to be 2W-1L we are pleased and hope to play 100minutes out before long.
