A low with some good signs
After a tough day against Scotch we pegged this match against Monash as a chance to play a team we believed were at our level. Both sitting bottom 3 with 1 win each, we felt we had an opportunity to take a scalp.
However, Monash were obviously in a similar mindset and jumped us in the first half, had it not been for poor kicking we may have been completely out of the game by half time. We also had an unfortunate situation with both our Full Back and Centre Half Back going off with match ending injuries before the end of quarter time, leaving our defence with a collective 30 games of experience. The quarter ended 5-18-48 to our 2-3-15
We asked each other for a strong resilient effort in the second half and in the third quarter we did achieve that, we matched our opposition with both teams scoring 2-1 for the quarter.
In the last, the wind had picked up and our bench was looking like a triage, monash piled on 5-8 to our one point and snuffed us out
What we are happy about is that with another 10 changes to the side week on week and still missing 12 players from the side that beat Parkdale, we are able to match our opposition for periods of the game. We always give 100% effort until the final siren despite the score line and we have blooded another 5 players with their first game for the club this season, including the coach of the 2’s Sam Hassett who praised our players endeavours post-match.
