Round 9 at saw us back at home against St Bedes MT on a wet miserable day. Coming off a large loss last time we played them, it was important that we were able to commit 100% to each and every contest and loose ball to try and get on top early.
The first quarter saw us with the majority of the ball and had control of the game. Unfortunately we didn't make the most of having all the possession as we went into quarter time at one goal each.
The second quarter was more of the same. It was a real arm wrestle in the slippery conditions and our last kick inside 50 continues to be an issue as we weren't able to register a score for the quarter. A lapse in concentration for five minutes at the end of the term saw SBMT put on a few quick goals. At half time it was 2.0 to 6.4, although the scoreboard didn't really reflect the effort the players were putting in.
In the third quarter we were able to draw the opposition back into the struggle as our defenders really stood up and repelled most attacks. Only scoring two points in the quarter was again a little disheartening as we felt we had majority of the ball and momentum. At the break it was 2.2 to 8.7.
In the final quarter we started to feel the effects of the injuries that occurred throughout the game. Our mids were really brave running out the whole quarter without rotation in the wet, and I'm sure won a lot of respect from their peers as well as the defenders who tried tirelessly all game against a solid opposition.
In the end it was not the result we had wished for as the scoreboard read 3.2 to 12.9, although as previously stated it didn't reflect the effort that the boys showed. Heading into the bye week we get a chance to take care of the little niggles and injuries and come out hard when we return against Melburnians.
