Our final game for the year saw us play top of the table Parkdale at home, and with finals out of the question it was a chance to test ourselves against the best one last time. The first quarter was played at great pace as the rebound off half back from both teams was impressive, although neither team kicked straight as we trailed at quarter-time by one goal.
The second quarter was easily one of our worst for the year, Parkdale flexing their muscles and kicking eight goals to our none. It could have easily been worse if not for our defenders who have been fantastic all year and this game was no different.
The third quarter was our best of the day kicking three goals to one as we were in control of the game, yet we were not fully able to capitalise on the scoreboard due to some wayward kicking once again. Still, it was great to see us outplay the best team in the comp when we all pitch in.
In the final quarter for the year we were down to an empty bench and this could have been an excuse to throw in the towel, but this was not the case. I am proud of the way the boys played out the whole game till the final siren as has been the case the whole season. The result didn't go our way but there were many positives to take out of the game and into pre-season.
Finally, thanks to the supporters that continued to come and watch the team throughout the year, as I know they won't say it, but it means a lot to the players that you are there. Also many thanks to the President, Paul Newton and his committee, the senior coaches Michael Tarrant and Paul O'Connell, my assistant coaches Rob Newton and Gary Chapman and all the key personnel around the club for the support over the year.
See you all next season!
