Coming into the game against a rapidly improving Fitzroy we were aware if they got off to a good start then we could be in trouble.
Unfortunately this is also the toughest part of the year as Uni holidays are in full swing and many of our players are away or injured. We were left with only two on the bench from the outset of the game.
Fitzroy were in command from the beginning and did not let up all day as they held their structures very well and kept rebounding hard. On a day when you only kick one goal it is hard to find too many positives, but there were some to take out of the game.
- The way our back six never stopped trying speaks volumes about their character, not only as players but as people.
- We were able to try some players in different positions throughout the day and help develop them into well-rounded players
- Some individual acts of courage throughout the game were also great to see, as the game was clearly gone yet we never stopped trying.
Credit to Fitzroy as they were too strong on the day.
To our boys: keep turning up to training and doing the right things and the rewards will come, no bigger chance than this week against Trinity!
