Round 9 news
What exactly did Taz cook up?
Round 9 news
Half way point…………………………….
It was great to have a break from football, given the program started back in November. And despite the poor on-field results the club has made significant progress off field, including:
- New sponsorship signings including
- Kay and Burton
- The Harp of Erin
- Sharp & Carter
- Retention of our 2015 major sponsors including:
- Bank of Bendigo
- Paterson Cheney
- Colombo’s Pizza
- Rewrite of the club’s constitution
- Appointment of new coaches, all teams
- Launch of the club’s new website at
- Creation of a Club membership, with approx. 60 loyal Panther fans now members in addition to our 95 life members
There is no hiding from our poor win/loss ratio so far but I can assure you all that we have a committed playing group and coaches. I see first-hand each week the effort they all put in and the pain of losing.
Despite this we are committed to our #GENERATIONNEXT plan. Looking at our list we have excellent numbers in the 19-23 age group and more over 28. Our biggest gap is in the 23-27 age group where boys are deciding to move on with their careers or extended travel. Have a look at the focus Ockie and Taz command at the break, from the round 9 game against Uni Blacks.
Panther boys getting recognized
A big congrats to Sam Cust for his selection in the VAFA’s senior rep side for last weekend’s game against the SA amateurs. Despite the loss Sam played a great game and showed why he is such an important member of our starting line-up. Congratulations also to Will Nichols on his selection in the VAFA’s U19 squad, terrific reward for Will’s excellent form in the senior’s this season despite still being U19. Here is Sam with his proud parents after the game.
A massive Chicken Wing Challenge comes to Bulleen
Last night was a great example of the boys’ spirit, with special thanks to Peter Robinson, the owner of The Butcher Club for his generous support of the boys by bringing 700 hot and sauced chicken wings up into the rooms for dinner. A challenge was posted on FB and the boys responded! And no surprise with Lewis Fotheringham the winner, out-eating some serious challengers as the photos suggest. I wonder how Lewis pulled up after chomping his way through 33 massive wings!
1986 Old Carey Premiership Team 30 year reunion
Yes it has been 30 years since that day we prevailed over Monash Whites to win the G Grade 1986 premiership flag by 20 points. To celebrate the anniversary we plan a day of catching up with old team mates, coaches, trainers, supporters and committee of that time.
When: Saturday July 16, from midday, Cookie’s Kitchen, Carey Bulleen
Come down and have lunch, catch up with your teammates and watch the A grade Seniors take on St Bernards. Dinner only? Then join us at the Elgin Inn for a meal and drinks to reminisce that glorious day in 1986. Our coach Mick Glenn is making the trip over from WA and is looking forward to the catch up. We hope you can make all of the above or even attend some of the day/night.
Below is a list of the 22 that played that day…..please try and make contact with as many as possible plus those that were involved with that successful year, and let them know about the upcoming event.

This Week’s Games
Seniors, 2nds and Unders all away to OM’s. Sadly our 3rds season is done, as reported previously the 3rds have struggled to field a team in recent weeks given the depth of injuries within the senior list. Despite a promising start to the season for the 3rds under the enthusiastic watch of Coach David Pocock, the committee has made the decision now rather than let the pain continue. So we look to 2017 to resurrect the 3rds and on behalf of everyone we say a very big thanks to David and his support crew.
- Seniors v OM’s : 2.00pm, Sports Cover Arena, Elsternwick Park, Elsternwick
- 2nds v OM’s: 11.40am, Sports Cover Arena, Elsternwick Park, Elsternwick
- 3rds no game
- Unders v OM’s: 2.00pm, Albert Park Oval #1, Lakeside Drive, Albert Park
Stay in touch with the games, following this linkto our website. Win, lose or draw we will publish the results and the coaches reports.
See you at the footy.
