Merry Panther-mas

Merry Christmas to all at OCGFC!

Merry Panther-mas

Merry Panther-mas!

What a big start to preseason it has been for the club both on and off the field.

We ended season 2017 with our Best and Fairest Dinner at the Richmond Football Club, in what was a great night for the players, coaches and supporters. More than 250 people packed out the Maurice Rioli room on the Thursday prior to the AFL Grand Final, which made the night even more special, given the Tigers successful finals campaign.

It is all systems go at the Bulleen in preparation for an exciting and hopefully premiership season in 2018.  Both the men and the women have all been back at training on both Monday and Wednesday nights and have committed to extra sessions outside of the club, including plenty of Tan runs and strong room sessions. You can even see in the picture below how committed to achieving success our captain is. Cam Jones has been enjoying his time away in Europe, but has still managed to get a run in or two – even in the snow!

With almost 100 different male and female players having tackled the preseason so far, the list is in a healthy state for 2018.  All players will enjoy the break over Christmas but will be back into it mid-January.

There are a number of new faces at the club.  We welcomeOur latest Panther recruits, Lucas Forato and Kristian Jacksch.

Lucas Forato, aka Nellie is a big inside midfielder that will bolster our on ball brigade in 2018. Having been a part of Old Brighton's recent success in Premier B, where they claimed Senior and Reserve premierships, Nellie will bring across good footy IQ and an appetite for success.

Kristian Jaksch is a former Carey student who has come back to his Carey ties after an AFL career, both at GWS and Carlton. KJ was drafted to GWS with their number 12 pick in the 2012. A great addition to the Panthers and at 195cm will be very handy

The AGM was held a week ago and the club identified that it would be going through a restructure of the positions, with a stronger emphasis on sub committees, to ensure more people are on board and more off field matters are attended to adequately. A final structure of the committee and subcommittee will be released shortly and the current committee has encouraged the playing group to get more involved with the sub committees to ensure we give ourselves every chance of success for all teams in 2018.

Wishing all members, players, families and friends of Old Carey, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
